Born out of the necessity to house some of my works, I constructed a portable viewing space in 2010. This installation takes the form of a museum, which in itself is a homage to one of my art school hero’s, Marcel Duchamp. This installation is titled “Museo D’Arte Moderna Contenitore Marittimo” ( shipping container museum of modern art ) similar to Duchamp’s “Boîte-en-valise” ( portable museum ) but also very different. The installation honors the city of Casamassima, Italy, the city of my great grandfather. He was an artist and my only possible source of a creative gene. Casamassima did not have a modern art museum until I created one and even now all or most of its citizens are unaware of its existence, as it currently resides in Los Angeles.
